We’ve had some beautiful sunny and warm days recently, however, it’s important to stay safe and cool in the heat, especially if you are over 65. Here at Honest Senior Care, we care about you and your wellbeing, and we want to make sure you know how to keep yourself and your loved ones safe in the hotter weather. These are our top tips for keeping cool in the heat!
Take cover
Stay out of the sun and take it easy during the hottest hours of the day, which is usually between 11am – 3pm.
Hydrate
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water or other beverages throughout the day. Fruit makes a great snack as it is healthy and mostly made of water.
Fan
Make sure you (or someone else!) have got your fans out of storage or purchase one ready for hot weather.
Windows and Curtains
Keep your windows and curtains/blinds closed for most of the day - only open your windows early in the morning or later at night once the temperature has cooled down outside.
Clothes
Keep your clothing lightweight, light in colour and loose fitting on hotter days.
Know the signs
Symptoms of heat-related illness can include a head ache, dizziness, confusion, rapid breathing or heart rate, skin that is pale and clammy, fainting and nausea and vomiting. Pre-existing conditions may also get worse.
Make sure that you carry out regular checks on yourself and your loved ones during periods of hot weather so that we can enjoy this lovely weather together safely.
